The result of long -term ,poorly controlled diabetes is vascular iniury Vascular complications are categorized as microvascular or macrovascular.Common macrovascular complications
include retinopathy , nephropathy ,and neuropathy .Common macrovascular complications of
diabetes include coronary arterry diasease (CAD),cerebrovascular disease ,and peripheral
vascular disease (PVD) CAD accounts for approximately 50%to 80% of dearths in patients with diabetes. Astoundingly .the risk of first myocardial infarction (MI)in a patient with diabetes is similar to the risk of recurrent MI in a patient without diabetes.The risk of stoke is 2 to 5 times higher in patients with diabetes as compared the nondiabetic population .The risk of pripheral arterial disease is also greater in patients with diabetes than in those without diabetes .it has been estimated that 20% of patients with diabetes who are over40 years of age and 29% of those over 50 years of age have peripheral arterial disease .
